DANCER
8.4.19
Darwin mentioned survival of the fittest twice in his theory of evolution.
He mentioned love 95 times.
there are days of you on my skin
bruises of me on yours
black and blue my fingertips on your chest
a sunset licked night
the perfect plum – juice sweet and tart ripeness
Eric Garner
we re raising some flag at half mast because shit fucking hurts sometimes
so let us be lamb
syrup in salted eggs
the sound of your lovers heartbeat lulling you to sleep
when so much of your body speaks to mine
how can it matter whos rib to who
catching me off guard with what i already know
lover, these tears are joy tender soul thinking
“oh there you are, i’ve been looking for you”
all that to say
let us be the force of nature darwin spoke off
an avalanche of kindness a downpour of sweet
let us be tree sap and sunlight kisses
let us be wind giving company to the lonely
or at the very least
let us love one another – right here, right now, in the belly of the beast in the gentle of the moment. As I do, as you have.

i say – tell me about your life
“
I live by myself in Virginia Highlands. I still forage and make weird stuff.
The last job I had was working on a TV show about the food scene in Atlanta. The current job I have is as a barista, and I will incorporate pop-ups soon.
I ride a Harley Davidson.
I am now training to be a body builder and spend 12 hours a week at the gym.
I’m vegan at home, a vegetarian at restaurants.
I work on miscellaneous projects like crafting my own knife roll from thrift store leather jackets and re-programming the scooters that have pooped up in major cities.
“
i say – write me a poem?
as if you weren’t poetry enough.
MIRROR
7.31.19
oh shut up blue
today is yesterdays tomorrow and guess what
you lived
through the mud drenching wet rain finger numbing cold
every winter and sadness
all those droughts and years of stagnant you are still love
monsoons are electric
look at you thrive
summer bright and strawberry juice
a reluctant eve who will always prefer pomegranates to apples
but figs are in season back east
where the Mississippi meets magic and foxes are out for prowl
look at you challenge dragons beast
there are lovers big enough to fill your entire life
when your life is small, and the world breaths in
let them go with the exhale
when your world is large and your life is full
let the magic seep in to the next outbreath
you are cycle and marrow
filling in the gaps between destiny
and timelines
look how many threads you’ve sown
connecting pieces even when you thought
mischief
there is something pure about good
an no one put gills where there should have been lungs
go ahead
spread yourself into this world
shamelessly
fearlessly
at the end of the tally only you will come to reckon
and you know theres nothing more cynical than regret

to all my mirrors thankyou
loneliness is a kind of winter
you drag me
kicking and screaming
into some kind of bright summer
FOOL.S.GOLD

nothing gold ever stays
“we’ll have our memories” he says
like im not already clinging to reminiscence
he sets the table with expectation
taking his time with syrup and hollandaise
never mistaking the sugar and salt
your certainty is a battleground for my doubt
to be idolized or remembered?
holding the balance on my fingertips
are searching your chest for what will be
i could have sworn i was telling the truth when i said i wasnt scared anymore
“Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place”

DREAMS

screw sleep
im dreaming
theres a dancer with a knack for knowing more than they should
licking gold off the air before we rust
just today
BOTANICA
7.21.19
mulberry sweet sugar wine – not today
for the reminder
what you want and what you need arent always shaking hands
blackberries a box of chocolates
thorn riddled and grounded
bend down
twist your spine forehead to heart
in in in into yourself takeagoodhardlook
the finesse of your fingertips working every single branch
to bleed
where does fruit end and body begin
let it be a lesson here
the shake my tree earthquake love
is out of season

what to learn from perhaps
thorn wired brambles
im speechless
berry red youre dizzy vertigo
let me kiss your forehead
cross a line of tender
perhaps too much we learn
sunshine and bliss are for the innocent
the warm
those who sleep at roots everything grounded and good
im foolish and wistful
making a mul from the ras
piest, the sultriest of singers
and here i claimed discernment
lackin acumen and understanding im injurious
too open – too willing
to ask
accumulating paragraphs in my story
like you’d stay till morning
best nip it it in the bud
perhaps we learn thorns
are a better berry
than softness
FORTUNA
7.19.19
nine of wands
i told you im capricious
fickle impertinent
fingers become cages quicker than water molds
you said youd never try to change me too late
im homebrew, love
im honey morning coffee
night time foot rubs
im tiny whisk its risky
to wash reds and whites together
remember lover, beyond you i am deep soil
soft sand and bark
nutrient rich seep pores
let the world absorb me
you have no place here
between my roots
